Outcomes of BDVA Activity Group meeting 39 on the work of BDVA Task Forces and the upcoming Horizon Europe programme

On the 23rd of October BDVA organised a one day Activity Group meeting (AG39) which took place entirely online and gathered more than 100 participants.

The agenda of the day included a plenary morning session dedicated to the presentation of several outcomes stemming from the work of the association and the Task Forces, amongst which:

  • Updates from Task Force 6 - High Performance Computing and especially concerning the outcome of the HPC webinars organised earlier in the year and news from the Transcontinuum initiative (Maria S. Pérez Hernández – UPM)
  • Presentation of the updated Position Paper on European Data Sharing Spaces, delivered by Task Force 1.SG7 - Data Sharing Spaces (Simon Scerri – Fraunhofer, Tuomo Tuikka – VTT, Irene López de Vallejo – Bluespecs)

The morning session also involved presentations on the upcoming AI, Data and Robotics Partnership (Thomas Hahn, BDVA President, Siemens), the outcome of the Third SRIDA release (Sonja Zillner - Siemens) and on the newly launched EUHubs4Data project (Daniel Alonso - ITI). 

BDVA Members also had the chance to pitch and present their organisations and research interests. Several BDVA Members took the stage and notably the University of Pavia, Universitat Politècnica de València, University of Twente, Everis and Tilburg University.

The plenary session followed by two parallel sessions on different topics:

  • A parallel session was dedicated to preliminary discussion for the establishment of a sub-group on Automotive under Task Force - Applications within the BDVA and saw the presentation of possible contents and areas which could be of interest for the association.
  • Another parallel session involved a brainstomring on the highlights and achievements of the Big Data Community, to be illustratedd in an upcoming ebook.

In the afternoon, the plenary focused on the presentation of the upcoming Horizon Europe Work Programme 2021-2022 and particularly concerning Cluster 4 - Digital, Industry and Space. Attendees had the chance to participate in a online matchmaking exercise and flag their interest for particular areas of the Work Programme.

Several BDVA Members also pitched during the afternoon session and concerning their research capabilities in the context of the current Green Deal calls under Horizon (pitch from Neclab) and the future calls under the Horizon Europe Programmes (picth from IDC and BlueSpecs). Freek Bomhof, Task Force Lead of TF5 - Policy and Societal, also presented the main areas of interest of the new Work Programme from his Task Force perspective.
