BDVA/DAIRO at the IoT Week 2021

IoT Week is an annual event organized by the IoT Forum since 2011. The IoT Week conference gathers industry and academia representatives from around the world. The 2021 edition of the IoT Week will take place from August 31st to September 3rd, 2021 and offers possibilities for physical (in Dublin) and online participation.

BDVA/DAIRO is an institutional partner of the event and will lead the organisation of two tracks in relation to Data Sharing Spaces and Trustworthiness of Industrial AI. More information on the content and scope of these sessions will be shared soon.

Outcomes of BDVA/DAIRO Activity Group Meeting 42 - 4th of February 2021

On the 4th of February BDVA/DAIRO organised an Activity Group Meeting for its members, the first of 2021, focused on discussing the Horizon Europe and Digital Europe programmes and particularly the aspect of European Data Sharing Spaces included in the latter. 

Up to 120 members of the community participated in the plenary session and the agenda involved presentations from over 30 speakers and experts, including from the European Commission.

The next Activity Group meeting will be organised in March. More information will be available soon.

BDVA/DAIRO Response to the public consultation on Data sharing in the EU – common European data spaces

BDVA/DAIRO welcomed the possibility to provide feedback to the public consultation on Data Sharing in the EU – common European data spaces and more particularly to the Data Governance Act and its inception Impact Assessment.

The association response was prepared by Task Force 5 - Policy and Societal in collaboration with BDVA/DAIRO office and involved the organisation of a workshop and of a series of other consultation activities aimed at gathering the feedback from the community.

am-LAB (PBN) wins the Digital Innovation Hubs challenge 2020

The am-LAB of BDVA/DAIRO Member PBN - Advanced Management recently won the Digital Innovation Hub Challenge 2020. The second edition of the novel Digital Innovation Hub Champions Challenge presents an innovative process for evaluating the maturity level of Digital Innovation Hubs (DIHs) according to specific parameters selected by the DIHNET consortium in collaboration with the European Commission. 

The winners of the 2020 challenge were announced in front of 1000 people during the First Annual European DIH conference taking place on the 26th and 27th of January online. The am-LAB has been recognised as one of the two winners of the 2020 contest and has been explicitely mentioned in European Commissioner's, Thierry Breton, speech.

Workshop on the Data Governance Act for BDVA/DAIRO Members

On the 13th of January 2021 BDVA/DAIRO organised an internal workshop, joined by more than 70 BDVA/DAIRO experts, focusing on the discussion of the Data Governance Act, released by the European Commission in November. 

A short intruction on the rules put forward by the Data Governance Act was followed by an open discussion and interactive exercise, the result of which will help to develop a common position on these topics.

The workshop constituted the first occasion for BDVA/DAIRO members to discuss this very relevant legislative proposal and other activities concerning the Data Governance Act will be scheduled in the near future.

BDVA/DAIRO and the European Organisation for Security (EOS) sign a Memorandum of Collaboration

On the 21st of December 2020, BDVA/DAIRO and the European Organisation for Security (EOS) signed a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) to strengthen their relation and develop joint activities in the areas of Big Data and AI for security. 

Through this MoC, the two associations have agreed to:

  • Collaborate closely in the definition of joint roadmaps, projects and events concerning AI and Big Data in the security application domain;
  • Collaborate further on specific BDVA/DAIRO and EOS activities (e.g. Task Forces, Working groups) bringing together the Security Domain, and Data, Artificial intelligence and also Robotics.

BDVA/DAIRO looks forward to starting 2021 with this newly established cooperation in place and is eager to work closely with EOS.

Call for Open Access Book Chapters - Data Platforms: Foundations, Design Space, and Deployments

A call has been launched for Open Access Book Chapters on the topics of Data Platforms: Foundations, Design Space, and Deployments.

Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before January 28th, 2021, a brief summary (abstract) consisting of title and 150-200 words clearly identifying the main objectives of your contribution and how it fits within the edited book.

Authors of accepted proposals will be notified in February 2021 about the status of their proposals and provided chapter formatting guidelines.
